If it’s a short-term legal fix, I might do hourly. For a big project, a flat project fee makes more sense.

Sometimes I offer a success fee—if they help us reach a certain milestone, they get a bonus.

Equity is trickier. I only do that with consultants I deeply trust and who’ll stay involved for the long haul.
